Chord Progression of the Month

one of my favorite chord progressions is

I Feel Fine by The Beatles

there will be more Chord Progression of the Month Pages

please check back every now and then

intro

||D7 riff///|C7 riff///|G7 riff///|G7riff///||

each riff is derived from the mixolydian mode for each chord

D mixolydian for D7, C mixolydian for C7, G mixolydian for G7

verse

|| G7 / / / | G7 / / / | D7 / / / | D7 / C7 / | G7 / / / ||

its based on the G7 12 bar blues chords

starts with G7 and can be followed by D7 and C7 in any order. try it

middle

|| G / Bm / | C / D7 / | G / Bm / | Am / D7 / ||

this from the key of G Major

starts with chord I (G)

can be followed by any chord in the key of G. try it

the Blues is American in origin

chords from the key of G that`s European Logic.

here we have a song that uses two obvious ideas!

songs must use valid formulae to make sense

your ear tells you its heard it before

sure, you can hit on it by accident, now and then

but what you want to be is consistent

Use this D Mixolydian pattern

to generate the D7 riff

Use this C Mixolydian pattern

to generate the C7 riff

Use this G Mixolydian pattern

to generate the G7 riff

download the Mixolydian Mode Patterns here

This is where the G Bm C Am chords are derived from

thanks for letting me share this insight with you

hope it helps you to understand and create music better

lets not forget the solo

against G7

George plays the G Dorian Minor mode (F Major)

checkout my 12 bar blues chart

he uses all three patterns

brilliantly played

thanks George
